Why It’s Important to Party With Your Man

This is a photo of a gay couple at a bar.

It’s easy to get complacent when you’re in a long-term relationship. My generation seems to rush into it faster and faster each year. One second we’re on a first date and the next we’re picking out furniture together. But every once in awhile we need to take a step back and remind ourselves that we’re only human.

Being in a relationship doesn’t mean you have to be an item. So many same-sex couples nowadays feel pressure to prove they can “make it” in this Grindr obsessed, open relationship thriving, hookup generation and they become fixated on becoming a boring married couple.

But let’s face it … these kinds of couples lose the spark fast.

There’s nothing wrong with being boring (believe me I can be very boring), but when in a relationship it’s crucial to remember life isn’t always about work and paying bills. You and your man can be a very strong team together. Partying is a great way to shape that quality, and here’s why:

1. It tells the world you’re PROUD

Going out with your man sends a message not only to the world, but to you as well, that you’re proud. This subconsciously registers with him and everyone around you. We all need to feel wanted in a relationship, so going out arm-in-arm with your boyfriend keeps us balanced.

2. It strengthens your loyalty to one another

One night, my ex-boyfriend and I went out and he spotted a guy across the bar trying to hit on me. My ex threw his arm around me and started kissing me — the guy got the message. It was a small gesture but it enhanced my trust in an odd way. I felt safe.

The same kind of loyalty is sharpened anywhere you bring your man. Let’s face it, one of the best parts of being in a relationship is having a partner in crime! A man to always have your back (even if he knows you might be in the wrong), to know you always have someone to make out with when the drinks start pouring, knowing you have a man to go home and play with. Now, that’s loyalty.

3. Being drunk together is amazing

Getting drunk with your boyfriend is always a good time, mainly because you don’t need to get drunk on your own — unless you’re an angry drunk, in which case it’s best to stay in your room.

When you get buzzed, the environment affects your mood. When you’re with someone you love and trust, believe me it’s always going to be good. Not to mention it leads to drunk and dirty sex nearly every time (you’re not going to finish that Netflix movie, so don’t even bother).

4. It reminds you how sexy he is

I’m never more attracted to a man than when I watch him socialize. In the back of my mind, I think, that’s mine and he’s coming home with me. It’s the sexiest thing. Sometimes, you forget how sexy your man is when we’re confined in your apartments with the dog and cable. It’s good to unleash each other to the world so you can reignite the spark.

5. It gets you out of the apartment

Over time, long-term relationships tend to get heavy over time — that’s their foundation. You can get so comfortable that eventually your nerves disappear and all that exists is delivery.com and a long night of board games. The best thing about partying is that it forces you to go out.

Go to your friend’s birthday party. Go to that show your coworker’s producing. Go to a local bar for happy hour with friends. Go to that opening party you saw on your way to work. Do it!

Socializing as a couple strengthens the bond and allows you to escape the “relationship bubble” we all feel after a certain point. Going out as a team reminds you just how valuable he is (and vice versa).
